Happy Friday 👋
Sending three FullStack HR emails in a single week was a bit much, and I assure you it won't happen again.
Also, I want to extend a thank you to everyone who has taken the time to complete the survey. (If you haven’t filled it out - it takes 47 seconds and helps me a ton.)
Your feedback is incredibly valuable, providing me with deeper insights, so truly, thank you!
Beyond a busy week in your inbox, I've also been swamped, conducting various training sessions for our managers. It's always a pleasure to engage with managers from our organization, listening to their questions and gaining insights.
But let's skip the small talk and jump straight into today’s topic. I
I’ve been mulling over an idea for some time now, and I can't shake the feeling that I might be wrong or perhaps overthinking it; hence, as always, I'm eager to hear your perspectives, so please share your thoughts in the comments.
Isn't it interesting how we bring in new tech into our workspace?
We do all these thorough interviews for our human hires, but then along comes this AI, and we're like, "Come on in, the coffee is great."
(And yes, I know I’m part of the problem here.)
ChatGPT has been a game-changer for many organizations; it’s drafting our emails, spicing up our training sessions, and even influencing our decisions.
But here's a thought: are we really keeping an eye on how it's affecting our workplace culture? Or are we just jumping on the AI bandwagon, hoping it knows where we're headed?
Think about it: we're used to keeping our company culture in check, especially when new people join. But now, there's this AI, quietly fitting into our daily grind.
It's slick, efficient, and kind of exciting, but are we sure it's not affecting our culture in a way that we haven’t thought about?
Are we just getting caught up in the AI hype, not stopping to think if ChatGPT or, more specifically, its output is actually a good fit for us?
And don’t get me wrong here - I’m not at all saying that we shouldn’t use ChatGPT at work - quite the opposite. All I’m saying is we should always ask ourselves some tough questions before implementing tools such as ChatGPT.
For example, how do we make sure this AI is vibing with our values and the way we do things around here?
It's not just about letting it do its thing. We've got to set some ground rules. We have to make sure the output we’re getting is aligned with the culture we want to foster. Words matter. Words have an impact.
So how do we do that?
First off, we need to understand what makes us tick as an organization. What are our core values? What's our style? ChatGPT should be like a new band member that knows the tune and plays along, not one that tries to change the song.
Then, we've got to draw a line in the sand. Let’s decide where and how ChatGPT can help us. It's there to boost our efforts, not take over. We need to use it to make our work better, not let it do all the work.
We also need to keep an eye on this new tech. Is it helping us stay true to who we are, or is it taking us in a direction we didn't plan to go? This means staying alert, getting feedback from the team, and tweaking things as we go along.
And don’t forget, knowledge is power.
The more we all understand about what ChatGPT can and can't do, the better we can use it.
Let’s demystify this tech and empower everyone to use it wisely.
Which means educating ourselves and understanding the tech behind it.
In short, as we ride this new wave of AI, let's stay true to ourselves.
I think that the workforce will become increasingly comprised of augmented generalists. There will be a shift from rigid job titles to fluid roles and from fixed skill sets to adaptable competencies. These workers will reconfigure team dynamics and leadership models. Their proficiency in utilizing AI tools will allow for more fluid and dynamic team structures, where leadership is less about having all the answers and more about asking the right questions and knowing how to leverage technology to find those answers.
Hi Johannes - do you have any examples of ways firms are using ChatGPT to build, enrich or preserve their cultures? This would strengthen your article. Thanks
