Hello friends 😎,
Long time no see. A little longer than planned. So why the delay? I got sick. And no, surprisingly, it wasn't covid. It was good old seasonal flu that knocked me down. It took nine days to recover fully, and I wouldn't recommend seasonal flu to anyone. The only positive side effect is that I lost 7 (!) kilos at the beginning of the year. And I didn't even set that as a New Year's resolution...
Speaking of the new year. It's a new year, and I feel like we didn't really finish last year yet. At least not in the sense of FullStack HR. The flu and all that got in the way. I think we're all lucky I didn't write my post about appreciating 2021 with a fever. That would probably be as embarrassing as someone a little too drunk getting up on stage after winning an Oscar. So we all dodged that bullet. Nonetheless, I want to use my precious space in the Substack to look back a bit before continuing this daring leap into the future of work. I'll try not to be awkward.
Some of you already know, but this whole thing started as an experiment on YouTube. I wanted to try out if it was possible to build an HR -YouTube channel. A channel that looks at what the future of work might look like and tries to discover trends.
In the beginning, it went well, and I gained viewers and followers.
But it took time!
I wanted it to look and sound good, which it did. But it took up too much of my time. After all, I still want to work in this profession, not just talk or write about it. And the hours were piling up. So I pivoted. And I pivoted here - to a newsletter and Substack. I started the newsletter for a small group in the spring and went full-on in the summer, publishing something every week until Christmas.
It was more fun and rewarding than I could've ever dreamed. Sure, it's been crazy to see the newsletter grow, but I'm most grateful for all the emails, DMs, and whatnot on the topics I've covered.
It's all still a big, fuzzy experiment. There have been times when I've regretted doing it all, and I still wonder why I chose the hard path of doing it all in English. But I'm learning a lot and (mostly) having fun doing it.
My only goal for 2022 is to continue being curious and sharing what's on my mind. I hope you'll continue to follow along with me.
There will be gifs, there will be times when I'm 100% wrong, but there will also be moments when you, who's reading this, can say to your colleagues:
"Yeah, I know that; I read about it in FullStack HR a while back..."
