Happy Thursday,
On Tuesday, I promised you real cases from people who are experimenting and driving AI forward in their companies. Not “AI this and AI that”. People who build, measure, and kill what doesn’t work.
Today you get the first one:
Joe Shahmoradian is Director of Talent Acquisition for EMEA at Morningstar. 15 years in TA, a journalism degree he never used for journalism, and one of the most hands-on AI builders I’ve met in this field.
Everything we talk about in this episode is stuff his team runs today.
Some highlights to give you a taste!
His team cut post-call admin by 75% with AI transcription on screening calls. The first tool he tried got killed because it treated small talk and candidate answers with the same diligence. How he found the right one, and why he’s now pointing the same model at interview quality and fairness, is in the episode.
He built Amira, an AI teammate that works like a journalist and scans the market around the clock. Market intelligence that used to take five days now goes out as short video briefings in about 90 minutes, before stakeholders even ask.
Joe built an AI clone of himself before paternity leave, with access to his emails, chats, and every document he’d ever made. Lying awake one night, he started wondering what would happen if someone maliciously prompted it to send an email in his name. So he got up and tested it…
We also get into how Morningstar moved AI adoption from enthusiastic volunteers to structure, with an AI Academy, a champions community that grew from five people to nearly 200, and an idea hub with ownership.
Plus Joe’s answer to what he’d do in his first 90 days at a company starting from zero. Spoiler, it starts with governance and it skips the demo-agent theater.
